Choosing the Right Grit Size

For coarse grinding and quick stock removal, electroplated diamond hand pads with grit sizes below 500 are recommended. Commonly available grit sizes for electroplated pads are 50, 100, 150, 200, 400, and 500. These pads are more aggressive and durable, making them ideal for smoothing curved edges and removing hurdles and snags.

On the other hand, if you're looking for a finer finish, resin bonded diamond hand pads are the way to go. These pads are available in grit sizes ranging from 50 to 3000, including intermediate grits like 800, 1500, and 3000. The resin bond coating on these pads makes them more flexible, allowing for honing and polishing of materials like marble, concrete, stone, and granite.

It's important to note that the grit size progression should follow a logical sequence, starting with coarse grits and gradually moving towards finer grits. This ensures a smooth transition from grinding to polishing and helps achieve a high-gloss finish. For example, after using a 400-grit electroplated pad for grinding, you can switch to a 600-grit resin bonded pad for a smoother polish.
